FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q. What is the difference between osteopaths and other practitioners?

A. The main difference between osteopathy and other professions is in its philosophy. Osteopaths view and treat the body as a whole, rather than simply managing the symptoms. This approach addresses the underlying cause of the symptoms providing you with faster healing and preventing future reoccurrences of your symptoms. Whilst some of our techniques appear similar to other professions, the reasons behind using these techniques are different and therefore result in different outcomes. We also believe that education on preventative measures is very important.

A. For more information about Cranial Osteopathy, please click here.

Q. What can Osteopathy help with

A. Osteopathy can help with a large range of problems. We most commonly treat:

  • Back and Neck pain
  • Headaches and dizziness
  • Limb pain (Arm and Leg)
  • Sports injuries
  • Pregnancy related problems
  • Postural related problems

Feel free to contact us to discuss your problem and we will be able to advise if we can help you.

Q. How long are treatments?

A. 35 - 40 mins.

Q. What are your hours?

A. We have appointments available Monday-Friday 8.20am – 6pm. If these hours don't suit please feel free to contact us to try to find something that may work.

Q. Can ACC help treatment cost?

A. If you have sustained an injury that resulted from a specific action/activity then you are entitled to subsidised osteopathic care for your injury. Your Osteopath can discuss the situation with you and let you know if you are eligible for ACC.

Q. What should I bring?

A. Any x-rays or MRIs you have and the results. Any ACC paperwork you may have previously received.

Q. What should I wear?

A. Comfortable flexible clothing. Tight fitting restrictive clothes hinder the ability to check movement and treat. At times you may need to undress to underwear to be able to assess the body, however if you are uncomfortable with this we can work within your comfort limits.

Q. How many treatments will I need?

A. Everybody responds differently to treatment and every injury is individual, therefore it is hard to give an exact number of treatments that you many need. On average for a recent injury 4-6 treatments are required, however with chronic longstanding problems more maybe needed and for acute problems less maybe required.

Q. Do I need a referral from my GP?

A. No GP referral is needed.

Q. What training do osteopaths receive?

A. Both osteopaths have completed 5 years of full time study, this included a 3 year Bachelor of Applied Science degree followed by a 2 year Masters in Osteopathy degree.
